With a mother at the piano and a father on the
guitar, there was never any shortage of music
in the Trotter household.

Born into a working-class family in the Maryhill area
of Glasgow it was that mix of musicality along
with a deep sense of family and community spirit
that brought people together to sing and entertain
each other, whether it be at the summer street
parties held behind the tenements, or singing at
the neighbours' Hogmany parties. When the family
moved to Cardonald in the south side of the city,
Michael took up piano lessons two years later
at the age of of seven until the age of 16.
The piano lessons were about to pay off however
when along with a friend after classes they would
get together in the music room at school and jam
beatles songs much to the entertainment of the
music teacher Mrs Johnston.

About this time of musical discovery, Michael began
to take an interest in other matters of a spiritual
nature when a friend invited him along to one of
the "charismatic" meetings held within the Catholic
church. That encounter left Michael with a deep
sense of there being something more in life, and
indeed something deeper than perhaps he had
encountered through the more traditional sunday
services.

Indeed there had been an "awakening" which caused him to see that God was not distant or far off,
but was someone who was accessable and attainable and more to the point deeply interested in him
as an individual. Thus began a journey for Michael of soul searching accompanied by a passion for music which saw him playing in several successful amateur bands of the day. Eventually though, it was to be a broken engagement which was to lead Michael in the direction his heart had been touched by in those
earlier "charismatic" meetings he attended. "It was almost as if something took hold of my life and actually
began to to point me in the right direction"

Michael was invited along to a pentecostal charismatic church in the heart of Renfrew, and was to
experience a spirituality akin to what he had previously seen, but even moreso in greater intensity. "The
music, the message, the people and the spirit all contributed to my decision that this was the place where I belonged". For the next few years Michael put down his roots, and gave his talents as a musician to
be a part of the music team within the church. It was almost by default though that he got the chance
to become the music leader within his church when the previous leader moved on. Whilst at the church, Michael was to meet his wife to be - Kim a voluntary worker and helper with the Teen challenge organisation, and they married and moved to Kims home church at Glasgow Elim.

The church in Glasgow was to undergo a radical shift in direction at that time when many people began to have supernatural encounters with God - many being emotionally healed, and coming into a place of realising that God wants not only be a friend, but as his Greek name "Abba" suggests, a daddy.  For many people that have never experienced God as a father and a dad, the message was to have an incredible impact on Michael and the church around him. The message not only impacted him as an individual, but affected the music as he found himself beginning to write at a more intimate level. Within the church he was again invited to be involved in the worship team, before becoming one of the leaders, and then several years on being invited to churches up and down the country to lead worship.

Over the past couple of years, it has been a dream of Michaels to be able to release his first full professionally recorded album. With some of the worship songs that he has written and have been introduced to the churches he has led worship at, requests for a recording began to arise, and although with no record company backing, the decision was made that has led Him to plan a release for late 2010. At present however Michael continues to lead worship at his Home church as well as other churches and events where he is invited. He remains married to Kim and has two beautiful girls - Emily and Jennifer.
